2011 Musical Plans

Category: General
2011 promises to be a very musical year- here's a quick run-down on some of the upcoming highlights:

Zach Show
#1:ZACH @ SLOWDOWN
My good friend Zach Short has been asked by a local promoter to play a show at the Slowdown on February 17th. (Lincoln's Mike Goode and Omaha's very own Sophia Cunningham will also be playing.) Zach has asked both Danny Sabra and myself to help accompany him. This will be the first time playing at the slowdown for all of us! Super exciting stuff...

Eric Show
#2: ERIC GOODELL CD RELEASE
At long last Eric Goodell's epic album "What We All Know" is complete! I finished all of the album art around Christmas time, and 1000 copies of the finished product just arrived the other day. Eric has been talking to different venues about hosting his CD release, and it looks like there might be a great show at The Waiting Room in late February or early March! I plan to open for Eric, as well as play keys (and possibly some electric guitar) on his songs. Friends, I have a copy of Eric's finished tracks... and they're amazing! This is gonna be a great show for a great album. Stay tuned for details...

Incommon Show
#3: INCOMMON BENEFIT
My good friend Leslie Wells is organizing an open house benefit for InCommon Community Development for March 5th starting at 4pm. There will be tons of art for sale, and live music will be provided by a range of artists including Aaron Jordan (Anniversaire) and Luke Pettipoole (The Envy Corps). I will be playing a set.

Scout
#4: SCOUT
On a whim, Danny Sabra, Zach Short and I, decided to get together over Christmas Break and lay down a couple tracks. Zach has a little makeshift recording studio in his basement, and we thought it might be fun to collaborate on some of our songs without homes. Our project was quickly called "Scout", for secretive reasons.

After a couple days of recording...we were all surprised with how well the recording was going- so we've decided to take it slow and make a real sweet project out of it. Stay tuned for a release possibly later in the year.

China Ben
#5: CHINA PROJECT
After some consideration, I've decided to make my next recording project an album comprised of the songs and field recordings I made while in China a couple years ago. A lot of the songs that I wrote over there received good feedback... and I have yet to record *any of them! I thought it might be a good project to help hone in my recording skills as I look forward to recording a large collection of Megan songs. There is a large range of style in my China songs, and there's also a good amount of original field recordings that I took in China that I want to incorporate into the recordings somehow.-I plan to spend a little money and actually have this album professionally mixed.
Although this album will be mainly a personal recording project, I plan to ask a few friends to lend their musical expertise on a couple songs. I also plan to make the album available for download via iTunes at first. I simply don't have the funds to produce another physical CD at this time, especially if I some more money into the recording/mastering. I'm going through all of my china photos and videos to help inspire some cool album artwork. (One of the reasons that I'm not able to afford duplication, is because I really want to make a sweet, colorful album booklet... which would really make the production costs go way up.) I will put the album artwork a downloadable PDF once the project is done.

#6: WEB- UPDATE
Also, you all can expect some subtle yet needed updates to benlueders.com this coming year. Stay tuned...
